I sat down today with someone who I am proud to call a friend. Since the day I met Pastor Demethruis Boyd, he’s been one of my favorite people in town. He is a really nice guy who does a lot for the city of Mineola. He has been positive and upbeat every time I have ever seen him.

Pastor Demethruis T. Boyd

Pastor Boyd has started a new movement in Mineola. It is called C.H.R.I.S.T., an acronym for Churches Helping Revenue Investing Services Together. Pastor Boyd sees this effort as an infusion of the church, local businesses, city management and all other aspects of the community. In a nutshell, C.H.R.I.S.T a hybrid of a cash mob and a church service. A contingent from the church and the community will gather at a local business. There will be some church service elements followed by attendees actively shopping in the business. Attendees are asked to commit to spend $10 or more in the host business.

In a time of economic difficulty, such an event will certainly benefit the business. Pastor Boyd thinks that it will also benefit the individuals who attend and the community as a whole. According to him, this is really an effort to unite different aspects of the community. I thought it was a great idea the first time I heard of it. The fact that Demethruis Boyd is behind it is icing on the cake.

The first coming of C.H.R.I.S.T. in Mineola is scheduled for Thursday, May 24 at 6 PM.
