I caught up with Dawn in her shop Tuesday afternoon to see how she was recovering from her win Sunday night. She didn’t have much time. There was a constant stream of visitors – both to buy the famous cupcakes, and to congratulate Mineola’s newest celebrity.”It’s been a steady stream since we came in yesterday morning.” Dawn said they had had a visitor from Plano the day before, and a woman from Amarillo called to order a cake that she will pick up “on her way through” to an event.
The burning question: How did you keep quiet about your win? “It was hard!” says Dawn, “-but we’d lose the prize money.” Losing $10,000 can be a pretty good incentive to keep mum. Dawn and her daughter Rachel held the news in for over eight months.
Next up: aiming for the $50,000 prize awarded to the winner of the fan-favorite bake-off. Contenders will be chosen by votes on the Cupcake Wars Facebook page.
Owner, Dawn Trammel, beamed with pride as the crowd of locals watched her episode of Cupcake Wars. In the end, The Luscious Crumb was named the winner of this episode, the 2013 season finale.
Shouts and applause filled the theater in celebration of the win for the bakery and for our town. The show’s theme of the 80’s inspired Dawn and her daughter, Rachel, to make cupcakes that embodied the musical spirit of 80’s pop music icon Taylor Dane.
Congratulations to The Luscious Crumb in Mineola.
Dawn announced Sunday night that The Luscious Crumb plans to open new locations in other East Texas towns with an ultimate goal of franchising her brand.
