Late last night the details were made public for the pending merger of Mineola and Lindale. The mayors of the two cities have been working on this for over a year. “It just makes sense”, said a Lindale official of the merger. “Every time we have gotten close to completing the merger, more details came down from Austin that required more research, but we are finally going to do this,” said a Lindale official.
Mineola City Hall was quiet this morning as city officials were briefed on all of the new laws and jurisdictions of the new town. An anonymous source said that Mindale will now try to get the county seat from Quitman since this merger will make the new town the largest in Wood County. Lindale, formerly in Smith County, is now part of Wood County.
A joint statement of both mayors said that the two mayors would have a run-off election to determine who finishes the initial term, then mayoral elections would move forward on a regular schedule from there. All council districts will remain the same, but will just get re-numbered as the two towns combine their governmental units.
The Mindale city office complex will be located in Mineola.
Happy April Fools Day everybody!
