Saturday evening the community had the chance to meet the 2013 Yellow Jacket football, volleyball, and cross country athletes, as well as the band, color guard, and cheerleaders. Each student was given a star’s introduction as he or she ran through the Yellow Jacket tunnel. After the introductions, fans were treated to free hot dogs and soft drinks. The event was sponsored by the Athletic Booster Club, Brookshire’s, and Mineola Community Bank.
High School principal David Sauer welcomed the fans and spoke of his excitement for the season. The cheerleaders and mascot were the first team to be introduced, then they led the crowd in the school song. Later, they practiced lifts and jumps to inspire the next generation. The cross country team made a dramatic entrance, running to the tunnel from the far end of the field. The volleyball team circled up for a team chant after their introductions. Volleyball passing drills were enjoyed by future athletes during the evening’s festivities.
New band director Chris Brannan was introduced to the crowd and gave a few remarks about this year’s show. The band and color guard members let their dramatic flair show in their introductions, with jumps, waves, and antics. The band members sported well-designed show shirts and the color guard wore their sleek new costumes. The band and color guard regaled the crowd with music and flag routines later in the evening. Two young fans were thrilled to be honorary drum majors, “conducting” for the band during a song.
The football players enjoyed applause and yells during their introductions. They signed autographs for and ran drills with the littlest fans later. All-new Athletic Booster Club merchandise flew off the sales tables as fans stocked up on essentials for the season. Fans are encouraged to come see the teams, band, color guard, cheerleaders, and mascot perform at games. All games are included in the Mineola Buzz Mineola Events Calendar.
