Autumn WInd Assisted Living - Mineola, Texas

As it nears completion, Mineola’s Autumn Wind assisted living facility is the first of its kind in our town.

Families looking for an alternative to a nursing home when a loved one needs some day-to-day help or rehabilitation now have an option in Mineola. Autumn Wind is a 64-bed facility consisting of studios and suites. A spa, patio, and formal dining room are among other amenities Autumn Wind is offering residents.

The administration staff has 47 years of combined experience in the assisted living field. Scott Dyer, the Resident Care Coordinator, has been in the field for 9 years, after seeing his family working in assisted living. He says he really got into it for the residents. “They’re so funny” he says of past residents he’s cared for that became like extended family to him. Missy Falls and Heather Logan handle the administration duties. “Missy and Heather do paperwork, and Scott makes them happy” was the quip used to sum up their work.

Scott is possibly proudest of the fact that Autumn Wind is a “Large B” facility, meaning that the only resident they can’t admit is someone that is totally bed-bound. He hastens to add that the facility also offers all levels of care, with a flat rate no matter how much care a resident needs. “We don’t charge more based on what they need,” Missy explained. The Autumn Wind staff also boasts of their month-to-month payment arrangements – as opposed to the annual or bi-annual arrangements offered by many other facilities – that allows them to help families whether a loved one needs to rehabilitate for a week or two, or become a permanent resident.

Activities are an important aspect of the facility, with a full-time Activities Director to keep residents active. “We will have exercise every morning. The families really value that to keep their loved ones active” Scott says. Dominoes, cards, table games, and puzzles will be daily offerings, and special activities include Bingo, a prom, and movie nights. A large Christmas party is planned for residents and their families as well. A monthly homeowners meeting will allow residents to give feedback to the staff, vote on a “meal of the month”, and make suggestions.

Scott hopes to open by the end of the summer. 18 residents are already waiting to move in as soon as the licensing paperwork has finished processing and construction is complete.
