Many of you know that APET SPCA has now opened the first Wood County animal shelter which is located in Mineola. Instead of building out on the loop, we found a wonderful ranch for sale on CR 2840 just west of downtown between the Sanchez Nursery and the UHaul rental location. Though our kennel for abandoned and surrendered dogs is still under construction in an 800 sq. ft. metal building on site, we already have some wonderful dogs and puppies for adoption.
Our biggest adoption outreach at present is for our cats and kittens. We currently have every size and color ready for their forever homes! Our surrendered animals are kept in quarantine until we are assured they are parasite and disease free. So our adoptions are fully immunized and spayed or neutered if old enough. Volunteers spend many hours socializing the animals so that they love people and want to be your best friend.
Wood County residents must call the Center first to ensure we can take unwanted pets, and it’s also best to call before going to look at dogs and cats to ensure we are open and have the type of pet you’re seeking (some of them are in foster homes). The phone number for the Animal Center is 903-638-6902. Like us on FaceBook and check out some of our babies online. If you have room in your heart and your home, please consider adoption first. And please spay and neuter even strays in your area to help avoid the incredible overpopulation of unwanted dogs and cats in Wood County. Come by and check us out and tell your friends. Regular Center hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
