Murder Shakes Downtown Mineola

Murder in Mineola, Texas

On Sunday evening, 6-15-14, a Mineola youth was murdered in downtown Mineola apparently after a verbal altercation with another person. 19 year-old Christopher James Griffin was found in the alley behind the Mineola EZ Mart with a gunshot wound to the neck. Before the air transport could arrive to take Griffin to the hospital, he passed away.

According to police, after a verbal altercation in the EZ Mart store with Jason Russell Walters, the two later met behind the store, where Walters then shot  Griffin in the neck.

Walters was arrested on a charge of murder.

We extend our deepest sympathies to the family of the deceased.

I know Jason, there must be more to the story. He didn’t need a weapon for a scrap, and he was too god for a neck shot if it was pre-meditated. He’d have fired center mass. I’ve seen him get along with most anyone of any type. Prayers out to all involved. It shouldn’t have gotten that far.
