It was announced to the city by the National Park Service that Mineola would be added to the National Register of Historic Places. This is a fantastic thing for the city in that the increased exposure will help local business and bring more people to town.
In a short phone conversation with Main St. Coordinator, Lynda Rauscher, I learned that many people have worked toward this goal for decades now and this this is a huge accomplishment for our town. “City council members, mayors, volunteers… especially the volunteers, have all worked tirelessly for a very long time to make this happen,” said Rauscher.
A celebration of this event is planned for December 7th, the same day of the Christmas parade and other holiday activity in downtown Mineola. There will be an open house downtown in addition to carriage rides, carroling and a list of other activities.
Congratulations to Mineola, which is 140 years old this year.
