Last night the city council had a special budget meeting to give the public an opportunity to comment on the proposed tax rate vote coming up at the end of September. According to state law, a second hearing for public comment will be held on September 12. The city is planning on keeping the tax rate the same as last year, but because of property valuation increases, taxpayers will still see a slight increase in the actual amount of taxes they pay.
The hearing will be held at 5:30 pm on Thursday, September 12 at the Council Chambers at 300 Greenville Avenue in Mineola. Residents will have the opportunity to make comments concerning the proposed tax rate at that time. No prior arrangement is required to speak to the council.
