The Mineola Kiwanis Club served 194 Mineola ISD students this past Saturday morning. The children from pre-kindergarten to fifth grade were given dental exams, eye exams, medical checkups, haircut vouchers, and backpacks full of school supplies. They then were given the opportunity to visit displays by several local organizations and businesses, including My Credit Union, the Mineola Memorial Library, Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and His Kids. A hot dog lunch awaited the children as they left the Methodist Ministry Center.
Members of the Key Club, the high school branch of the Kiwanis Club, stuffed the backpacks on Friday and helped distribute them at the event. My Credit Union had a spinner game and gave out candy and pencils. Students got to choose a book from the library table. Parents and children also had the opportunity to speak with leaders and register for Scouts or His Kids. His Kids is a christian afterschool program hosted by First United Methodist Church for children in kindergarten through fifth grade.
