Mineola Iron Horse Heritage Festival 2012… a Whopping Success

The Mineola Chamber of Commerce puts on two large outdoor events every year. Mineola May Days is, of course, in May and the Mineola Iron Horse Festival takes place in November. This year’s Iron Horse Festival seemed to be better attended than any of the previous Iron Horse events of recent years.

The festival had its standard set of events like the Chili Cook-off and plenty of live entertainment. Two years ago the chamber put together the Mineola Metric Century bike ride. That event is now on the same day as Iron Horse and this year it really made a difference. With a few more than 80 pre-registered participants, the Metric Century saw a flood of walk-up (or ride up) entries and ended up with some 200+ participants. All of the participants were given coupons to use for food and drinks at Iron Horse. This tie in apparently worked as Iron Horse had a surge of people throughout the day.

I have spoken with several local shop owners and have heard third-party reports of others who say Saturday’s business was great. I heard words like “best ever” and “off the charts” used to describe Saturday’s sales in local stores.

The events of this day and the effects of the day on local businesses are  reflective of the good work of the Mineola Chamber of Commerce and its director, Pam Franklin. There were many, many people who worked to put these two events together and each and every one of them should be commended.

Septien School of Contemporary Music

The Septien School of Contemporary Music is an institution that not only helps musicians and singers hone their craft, but also prepares them for the real world of marketing, PR and sustaining their place as a professional in the music industry.

In their own words from their web site:

Beginner or advanced, child or adult, Septien offers its artists study programs in every aspect of the music industry including vocal lessons, instrumental lessons, songwriting, stage presence/acting, and much more. Whether private, one-on-one lessons or semiprivate/group sessions, Septien School of Contemporary Music, a division of Septien Entertainment Group, is a full turn-key facility with everything an artist needs under one roof including all the fun that should go along with creating an artist!

The quality of the performers the Septien Group brought was unparalleled. The entertainers in this group were clearly well-taught in the finer aspects of performance from both the musical quality aspect as well as the overall performance quality. These young performers got the attention of the crowd and kept it throughout their entire performances.

Entertainers from the Septien Group performed on the main stage, at a Mineola Gazebo and at East Texas Burger Company throughout the day.
